Feet Don't Fail Me Now!

Are you flat-footed, high-arched, or somewhere in between? Before you jump into orthotics, let’s talk about foot mobility, strength, and the right shoes for your body. Your feet are your foundation—and the right support (or freedom!) can make a world of difference. Whether you need structure or more movement, we’ve got shoe recs and expert tips just for you. 👟 Spoiler alert: Not all flat feet need orthotics—and not all support means stiffness. Let’s keep it fun, functional, and foot-friendly!

Hey there, bendy friend!

Let’s talk feet—those often overlooked little powerhouses at the bottom of your body. Whether you’ve got pancake-flat feet, sky-high arches, or just a general feeling of “my feet are weird,” we’re here to say: your feet deserve more love and attention.

So, do you have flat feet?

Have you been told you need orthotics?

Let’s hit pause. Just because your foot doesn’t have a defined arch doesn’t automatically mean it needs to be shoved into a rigid insert. It’s not one-size-fits-all (or one-arch-fits-all, for that matter).

💡 Hot tip: Sometimes flat feet aren’t truly flat—they’re just stiff. And when feet don’t move well, the whole body has to pick up the slack (looking at you, knees and hips 👀).

The Foot-Body Connection 🧠🦶

Your feet are your connection with the ground. Every step sends signals all the way up through your body. When foot mechanics are off—even just a little—it can create big ripple effects, especially if you’re living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) or other hypermobility conditions.

Support, Not Suppress 🚫🦶🛑

Sometimes you need structure. Other times, you need movement. And occasionally, you need a little of both. Orthotics can be helpful, especially when your foot muscles are tired or you’re dealing with joint instability—but they’re not always the end-all solution.

🧘‍♀️ Try this:

  • Toe yoga (spread those toes like they’re sunbathing)

  • Short foot exercises (think: foot planks)

  • Controlled calf raises

  • Maybe a gradual shift to more minimal shoes, if and when it makes sense for your body

Okay, But What Shoes Should I Wear? 👟

We love this question—because good shoes = happy feet = happy body.

For average to low arches (or flat feet that need some support):

These shoes offer a combo of stability and comfort without locking your feet down like concrete boots:
Asics GT series – solid stability without being too stiff
Brooks Adrenaline GTS – great for mild to moderate overpronation
Brooks Ariel (women) / Beast (men) – plush, structured, and supportive for those who need more control

For high arches or feet that crave cushion:

Brooks Ghost 16 – soft and neutral, perfect for those who need shock absorption and don’t want to feel too "held"

👟 Pro tip: Bring your current shoes to your PT or fitting appointment—wear patterns can tell us a LOT about how your feet move!

Let’s Keep It Fun 🎉

Foot health doesn’t have to be boring. Whether you're dancing in the kitchen, walking your dog, or just chilling barefoot in the grass, your feet are always working for you. Show them some love!

And remember: it’s not about having “perfect” feet. It’s about helping your feet feel strong, stable, and supported in a way that works for your unique body.

👣 Stay strong, stay supported, and keep those feet happy.
